Spokespeople - Our Team
Mebyon Kernow is different to the national (UK) parties. We are not funded by big business or wealthy individuals so that our voice is not compromised by vested interests. Our spokespeople are not afraid to stand up for justice and common sense, always keeping the best interests of all their fellow citizens at heart. While putting Cornwall first we also recognise that Cornwall has a valid part to play for the good of all in the wider world.

Cllr Dick Cole - Party Leader
Cllr Dick Cole has been the leader of MK since 1997 and he has been an elected councillor for over twenty years. Elected to serve his home parish of St Enoder on Restormel Borough Council in 1999 and, in 2009, stood down from his employment with the Cornwall Archaeological Unit, so that he could stand for election to Cornwall Council. He has been involved with numerous groups and secured over £600,000 in grant funding for projects in his local area. The Cornwall Live website has listed Dick at no 3 in its “Cornish List” of those people who “lead the way in campaigning on Cornish issues.” Dick is also MK’s spokesperson on housing and planning.
Cllr Dr Loveday Jenkin - Deputy Leader
Cllr Loveday Jenkin was the leader of Mebyon Kernow between 1990 and 1997 and she is a respected politican with a long track record of campaigning. Trained in ecology to postgraduate level, she worked in the environment sector for many years. Loveday was elected onto Kerrier District Council in 1995 and served on the authority for 14 years, rising to a position on the Cabinet. In 2011, she was elected onto Cornwall Council for her home division of Wendron and Crowan, which she continues to represent. Extremely active in the Cornish language movement, she is also MK’s spokesperson in the language.
Cllr Andrew Long - Treasurer
A long-standing member of Callington Town Council, Cllr Andrew Long has served as the Portreeve of his home parish. He was elected onto the Caradon District Council in 2007. Two years later, when the district council was abolished, he was elected onto the unitary authority. Well-known in his local area, he has been active with a large number of organisations, including Callington Football Club which he served for many years as Chairman. He also assist a community group which does a soup run for homeless people in Plymouth. Andrew is also Mebyon Kernow’s spokesperson on the economy.
Cllr Michael Bunney - Party Development Officer
Cllr Michael Bunney is a long-standing parish councillor in St Goran and previously represented the Mevagissey division on Cornwall Council. A strong community champion, he is active in a wide range of local organisations. He was a teacher for over twenty years and, in 2012, he was successful in coming second as South West Teacher of the Year. Michael stood down as the Principal of the Restormel AP Academy in 2019 and presently teaches politics one day a week at the University of Exeter at Penryn, where he is researching Cornwall in World War 1 for his PHD. Michael is also MK’s public services spokesperson.
