MK Backs Petition Against "Shared Services"
Mebyon Kernow has given its full backing to a petition opposing the privatisation of a massive range of core Cornwall Council functions including benefits, council tax, payroll, IT support, libraries and one-stop-shops.

This follows the decision of Cornwall Council’s ten-strong Cabinet to push ahead with a “Strategic Partnership for Support Services,” even though it was opposed by the majority of elected members.

The online petition has been posted on Cornwall Council’s website by independent councillor Andrew Wallis, with the support of a number of other members including MK Deputy Leader Cllr Andrew Long. It states:

“We, the undersigned, call on Cornwall Council to reverse its decision to proceed with a Strategic Partnership for Shared Services until such time the majority of the elected members of Cornwall Council have voted to support the proposals.”

Speaking on behalf of MK, Deputy Leader Cllr Andrew Long said:

“It is vital that thousands of people sign this petition to put pressure on the Cabinet to reverse their decision to privatise such important council services. Please sign the petition today.”
