Mebyon Kernow Demand Action on Tax Avoidance
Mebyon Kernow – the Party for Cornwall has challenged the Coalition Government to take decisive action on tax avoidance.

This follows the news that certain rich individuals, such as comedian Jimmy Carr, are still using complex tax avoidance schemes to avoid paying tax.
MK Leader Cllr Dick Cole said:
“It is a wrong that certain rich individuals are continuing to use scams to avoid paying tax, while ordinary working people are paying their tax bills in full.
“Public services are being starved of cash and it is a disgrace that the Government has been allowing people to dodge paying their fair share of tax, so that they can spend it on large houses and fast cars!
“The Government is not doing enough to stop tax avoidance and needs to act now.”
Mebyon Kernow has welcomed the news that the Prime Minister has condemned the actions of Carr as “morally wrong,” but had had to condemn Cameron for refusing to criticize other individuals, such as prominent donors to the Conservative Party, who have used complex schemes to avoid paying tax.
Cllr Dick Cole added:
“It is unacceptable that certain wealthy individuals, and those with access to well-paid accountants, can be treated differently to the rest of us when it comes to tax. The Government must take decisive action on all tax cheats and it must eradicate all tax avoidance schemes.”
