Mebyon Kernow demands local control over planning
Mebyon Kernow members will be meeting in St Dennis on Friday 12th February to plan a wide-ranging campaign on matters relating to planning and housing.

Party members will be specifically calling for the devolution of all aspects of planning policy to Cornwall .

Speaking on behalf of MK’s St Austell and Newquay Constituency Party, Michael Bunney said:

“Carefully considered local decisions on planning are being overruled by planning inspectors based in Bristol or London .

”Cornwall is gradually being concreted over and in every parish there is a real battle to preserve our beautiful countryside and coast.

“At the same time, Government policy is preventing Cornwall from delivering robust plans for proper affordable housing and denying us the opportunity to control the spread of second homes.

”Surely, now more than ever, we need a Cornish planning framework decided by local people to serve our housing and development needs. I fear that, in a generation, the beautiful Cornwall we know could be lost forever and still local people will be waiting for affordable homes.”

It is anticipated the campaign will cover a range of issues such as unsustainable developments, unsustainable housing numbers, the Government’s damaging Housing and Planning Bill, the growth in second homes, the lack of affordable housing, and more.

The meeting will take place at ClayTAWC in St Dennis on Friday 12th February, starting at 7.30.

Anyone interested in finding out more about joining Mebyon Kernow and helping with MK campaigns, would be welcome to attend the meeting.
