Campaigning for a Cornish Assembly in Truro
Mebyon Kernow members took their campaign for a Law-making Cornish Assembly onto Lemon Quay in Truro on Saturday 25th January. It was the first in a series of Roadshow events, which will promote MK’s campaign for greater powers to be devolved to Cornwall.

The Cornish Assembly Roadshow team in Truro on SaturdayThe  events will offer the public the opportunity to come and meet MK members and ask any questions that they might have – in particular about a Cornish Assembly. There will also be the chance to sign a declaration in support of an Assembly as well as meeting our prospective parliamentary candidates.
Commenting on the Lemon Quay event Stephen Richardson, prospective parliamentary candidate for Truro and Falmouth, said:
“There were several things in particular that really pleased me on Saturday. I got to meet and listen to the concerns of the people in the Truro and Falmouth constituency. There is a clear groundswell of opinion that Cornwall gets a raw deal from Westminster and that the London-based parties are all much of a muchness.
“Also, people responded to the publicity that our social media team had given to the event. I spoke to people from all over Cornwall – some had made a special trip to show their support for our campaign and I would like to thank those people especially. It makes our hard work worthwhile when we know that people are listening to our message and responding positively.
“It was great to meet lots of new MK activists. This is particularly encouraging. When you read and see how membership of Westminster political parties is declining it is wonderful to see MK membership blossoming - we must be doing something right. The icing on the cake is the number of young people who are taking up the MK cause.”
Over 200 people signed declarations in support of a Cornish Assembly on Saturday.
