On the Election Trail with Stephen Richardson
I passionately believe that Mebyon Kernow is the only party capable of putting Cornwall first. When I was elected as a parish councillor in Illogan in 2010 I found the work very satisfying and rewarding. I resolved to try and take it a stage further by becoming a candidate for Mebyon Kernow in Illogan for the upcoming Unitary elections.

All too often people rightly say that politicians are only interested in the public at election time and I wanted to do things differently. On top of my normal parish duties I have been delivering four newsletters a year all around Illogan - letting people know what is happening in their part of Cornwall and seeking feedback. I can quite honestly look voters in the eye and say that I have welcomed their opinion and input into my work as a parish councillor throughout the last three years and the election campaign is simply the final few weeks of this process.

Having started my Illogan election campaign in earnest over the past few days I have, so far, spent ten cold and windy hours knocking on doors and had ten hours of warm and welcoming responses.

More people have said that they will vote for me than have indicated that their loyalties lie with any of the Westminster parties and I am quickly running out of election boards to prove that the sentiment is a genuine one.

By far the biggest number of people seem undecided - there is a real sense of anger and disillusionment with the coalition and the previous Labour government.

Mebyon Kernow policies are striking a chord with the people I speak to - they want a better deal for Cornwall now and a brighter future for their children.

I will try and write up more campaign news as it happens in the build up to election day - but, for now, it's time to hit the doorsteps again.
