ANDREW LONG TO BECOME FULL-TIME COUNCILLOR
Callington Councillor steps down from job after 26 years employment
Mebyon Kernow Councillor Andrew Long has taken the giant step of leaving the job he has had for over a quarter of a century in order to concentrate on his work as the Cornwall Councillor for Callington Division.
Cllr Long, who won the Callington seat in June 2009, joined Weatherhead Shop Designers straight from Callington School in April 1984. He has been there ever since.
“It has been an incredibly hard decision to effectively cut my earnings in half, but it has become clear that the job of a Councillor is not one that can be done part-time. said Cllr Long.
“I have had tremendous support from Weatherheads, in particular, from Managing Director Dean Piper, during my time as a district councillor on Caradon and, more recently, as a member of Cornwall Council. It will be sad to say goodbye to them after all this time.”
Cllr Long’s employment with Weatherheads will end on 31st March and he plans to increase the number and frequency of surgeries for the people of Callington in the spring.
MK Party Leader Cllr Dick Cole added:
“I am extremely proud that Andrew is a Mebyon Kernow councillor and I look forward to working even more closely with him in the coming months and years. He is making a great personal sacrifice because of his commitment to win a better deal for Callington and Cornwall.”
